Radish – 1 big or 2 small

Egg – 1 (optional)

Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp.

Salt for taste




Wash and peel the radish and cut it into thin finger sized sticks.

Sprinkle turmeric powder, salt and mix it well. Then steam the radish in a vegetable steamer or spreading it on the idly plates.

Steam them until they are completely cooked but still stiff. Strain the water if it is there. If needed pat it dry with tissue paper or dry clean towel.

Heat the pan and pour 2 tbsp. of oil. When it is hot spread the cooked radish fingers in the pan. Shallow fry it until they start to turn brown. If needed add salt or any other seasoning of your choice. Sometimes I sprinkle some pepper powder, chili powder or cumin powder. Remove it in the bowl and serve it.

The other method is to coat the radish sticks with egg mixture. Initially my son did not like radish. I first did this egg method to make my son eat radish. Then after sometimes I started to shallow roast them without egg as shown above.

For this method of preparing the radish sticks, beat the egg with little salt. Dip the steamed radish sticks in the beaten egg and spread it on the pan that is heated with little oil.

When the egg coating is cooked on one side flip the radish sticks to the other side. When the egg coating is cooked on all the sides, remove it from the pan and transfer it to a bowl. Proceed it for the next batch of radish sticks.
